Shortly after leaving the airport you will have left the hustle and bustle of Sofia behind you and will be heading up to Samokov on a winding road in the valley of the Iskar River. There are a few villages on the way but mainly you will be driving through a pine and beach wooded valley. 15 kilometers from Samokov you will be driving beside Lake Iskar which is the largest lake in the Balkans, one hour after leaving Sofia you will enter the town of Samokov and arrive at Koolski house.

Borovets is the oldest Bulgarian winter resort with a history that dates back to 1896. It is situated on the northern slopes of the Musala ridge in the eastern part of the Rila Mountains. Huddled in pine forest 1300m above sea level it is the perfect place for winter sports and recreation. The ski season usually spans from mid-December through to April. The resort offers excellent conditions for alpine skiing, snowboarding and cross country. There are slopes to suit all levels of ability and excellent opportunities for the first time skier. In the high parts of the Rila Mountain, in the Markudjik Ski Center, during high season the snow depth reaches over 2 meters, providing unlimited off piste opportunities. There are three ski centers in Borovets ski resort with Sitnyakovo starting from 1337 meters altitude up to 1780 meters, Yastrebetz from 1340 m up to 2369 m and Markudjik from 2340 m up to 2560 m.

Borovets has plenty of good restaurants and bars, whatever your taste. Being a small village at the base of the mountain, it is very easy to get round. Most of the main hotels are within 500m of each other, as well as the gondola and a lot of the nursery slopes, which makes it very easy for families with smaller children. For the more grown up members of the family Borovets has an excellent nightlife, at a price that won't break the bank.Borovets is the ideal resort for families.
